Wow, three posts for the whole month of August (including this one), I suck. There's no good excuse for this lapse, it wasn't the blackout, and I haven't been on vacation. I just haven't been doing a lot of gen-interest library reading/surfing recently, so not much to say I guess. A couple of things I noticed while catching up:
All sorts of hoopla about a librarian who happens to have a private life. Townsfolk aren't pleased: "I don't know if I'd want to see children influenced by someone with that kind of behavior."
Bad news for Cuban librarian.

Today I got an itty-bitty taste of what public librarianship might be like. On the reference desk this morning, I was asked if I knew where I could buy a pair of muscle shoes. Unlike most exchanges at an academic reference desk, I was actually able to provide a concrete answer, with pictures and an address to boot (awful pun, sorry). It was nice.
The National Book Festival is back in October with Laura Bush at the helm again.
Naomi Klein's speech at ALA Annual is reprinted in the current issue of Library Juice, in case you missed it.
I forgot to mention this: I'm chairing an NMRT committee this year - the New Writers Support Ad Hoc Committee - and we're working on a website of resources for librarians who are new to writing for the profession. If you know of any good online resources, let me know. I'll post updates on the committee's website as we work on it.

So you'd like to ...Be a Library Patron/Benefactor on $50 a Month.
Local presses just love stories about delinquent overdues. I have to say, I can't quite resist them myself.
A new Harvard digitisation project: the Nuremberg papers.
I really enjoyed this week's Library Juice. A whole lot of content in two stories.
A library weblog about library weblogs. How meta!

You used to know bibliolatry.net as a library news/resource blog. Well, I'm now posting library news/resources at LISNews.com (albeit sporadically) and bibliolatry.net is where I talk about the library lit I'm reading. Have something I should read? Let me know. Have something to say about an article I talk about? Leave a comment. For more about me, go here.
